Naturally nurturing ideas

Hi folks,

After feeling sick for the last few days (must have been all that blue sky and sunshine....... ;) , my mind has turned to natural alternatives to nurture ourselves.

You know, things like what beauty products do we use - are we predominantly using the story bought ones, or are we coming up with natural alternatives? Or using the tried and true methods hadn't done from the past.

Maybe we could share some of these healthy beauty/wellbeing ideas, and I could list some of them on the blog, a bit of a resource for ideas (with links back to your blog, of course).

I must admit, I'm not a great one for fussing with my appearance too much.  Too busy with crafty things for that.
But, I do love natural products.

For a moisturiser I have a little squirty bottle that I fill with oils like Jojoba and a little rosehip oil, which is great for the 'mature' skin.  Jojoba, apparently, is very close in composition to the skins oils.

Actually, I think that technically it isn't an oil, but a wax - I could be wrong.

I then add in a few drops of essential oils, depending on my mood.  I often add geranium, or carrot seed, neroli, that sort of thing.

I am a huge proponent of essential oils

In fact, after the rainy, soggy Summer, I have discovered the benefits of clove essential oil in getting rid of mold.

In the last few days of being sick, I have been drinking elderberry syrup, elderflower tea, sipping on lemon, ginger and thyme tea and, even, wait for it, swallowing raw garlic!!

Yes I know, yuk, but I hate being sick and will go to these lengths to get better without resorting to antibiotics.

I also believe in the power of prayer, which has been put into practice in the last few days (to great effect).

I ended up with pneumonia a few years ago, and believe me, I don't want to end up there, so, as they say - an ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure!

Ain't that the truth!

So, come on, out with it.....

What's your favourite remedy, natural beauty treatment, etc.

cheers
Fi

  1. Great idea! But I don't usually have anything for personal use.
Tea-tree oil as an antiseptic. Garlic & horseradish for sinus. Garlic for everything!! And I LOVE lavender, so calming and smells lovely. Also a huge fan of vanilla - just because
Will be interested to read more, so put them up on your blog please

  3. Chamomile and honey for sleeplessness. Mint for growly tummies. Clove oil for tooth-aches. Chocolate and coffee for head-aches (I swear it works!) Oh, and putting baking soda in my shampoo and apple cider vinegar rinses once weekly to keep my very oily hair looking shiny and happy.

  4. Fi,
I LOVE this idea. I used to mess around with herbs A LOT. I had an herbal tea garden, a kitchen garden, a rose garden, and I just loved it. Just looking at your pictures soothes my soul. There are a couple of things I still do, because they are simple. I had a pedicure one time that left my big toe with that horrible fungal issue. I use tea tree oil on it daily. I put it on top and under the toenail and you can hardly even tell the fungal issue is there. I also rub a dab of lavender oil on my temples, right before going to the dentist. It calms me.

  5. I'm so happy to hear you're feeling better. I love essential oils too. I used some patchoelie in handcream I got at the pharmacy. I loved that. You don't have to use much, otherwise it will be too strong.
I love to drink nettle tea to cleanse myself and for the iron. I eat a lot of yoghurt too. On advice of Susun Weed. It seems to help against bladder infections and much more.
    Have a great day.

  6. Thanks for sharing. Currently have a terrible mold problem in my kitchen. Will have to get some of the essential oil you suggested.
Have tried a couple times to leave comments but they ended up getting eaten by the internet. Think it is working okay today, though. We shall see...

  7. Great post Fi - like your moisturizer idea. Can you give us some more details as us 'maturer skinned' ladies need all the help we can get!!!!
My little tip is a natural product which is garlic based and is FAB to immunise you against basic colds and flu. I work with young children and have been taking this for the past 2 years and haven't had a single cold in that time! I think you could even eat a clove of garlic raw every day but these are pills/tablets and are very easy to take. Garlic Rocks!!!! lol x

  8. Hey Fi, can't really add to the thread here as I'm not really into herbal/alternative remedies as we all seem to be pretty healthy here........

We do keep up the Vitamin C to ward off colds but definitely a big believer in the power of prayer...

Have enjoyed reading your post on alternative things, glad you are feeling better...
